Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm
Sauer-Beckmann Farm is a working living history farm inside Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site, presented as it was in 1918. Interpreters in period clothing do the daily work of a Texas-German farm family: they cook on a wood-burning stove, raise crops and care for the livestock. Around the farm, the park keeps pastures of bison and Texas longhorns along the Pedernales River, with a 1.2-mile nature trail, and admission is free, which makes it an easy stop for families exploring LBJ Country.
Why people come here
Before you go
The farm is closed the last Tuesday of every month and on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Paths are hard-packed ground and caliche, and the historic buildings' entrances are not wheelchair accessible. The free permit for the LBJ Ranch driving tour is picked up at the same state park visitor center, so the two make an easy pair.
