Wimberley & the Springs

The clearest water in the region comes out of the ground here, and almost all of it now requires a reservation.

This is where the Edwards Aquifer surfaces. Jacob’s Well, Blue Hole, Hamilton Pool, Krause Springs and the San Marcos Springs are all the same water finding its way out of the same limestone, and between them they are the most photographed places in the Hill Country.

That popularity has consequences. Nearly every one of them now caps daily entry, takes bookings weeks out, or closes for water quality. Turning up on a July Saturday without a reservation is the single most common mistake visitors make here.
