Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area
Located near Rocksprings, Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area is home to one of the largest Mexican free-tailed bat colonies in Texas. The main attraction is the sinkhole itself, a massive cavern that drops 140 feet deep. During the summer months, millions of bats emerge from the sinkhole at dusk to hunt for insects, creating a spectacular natural phenomenon. The surrounding area features rugged Hill Country terrain with oak and juniper trees, providing habitat for diverse wildlife.

Before you go
Access to the natural area is only by guided tour. Bat flight tours run in the evening from Wednesday to Sunday, May 1 through Oct. 31. Morning tours are on select days and begin before dawn. All tours launch from the Devil's Sinkhole Visitor Center in Rocksprings.
