Six dammed lakes on the Colorado, pink granite underneath, and the only part of the Hill Country where the water is the destination rather than a feature of it.
Buchanan, Inks, LBJ, Marble Falls, Travis and Austin — the Highland Lakes are a chain, built by the LCRA between the 1930s and the 1950s. Buchanan and Travis fluctuate with drought. Inks, LBJ and Marble Falls are constant-level, which is why the houses are where they are.
The granite is the other half of the story. Enchanted Rock is just west, Granite Mountain supplied the state capitol, and the rock shows up in the riverbeds, the buildings and the name of half the businesses.
What people actually ask for.
Backroads does not manage houses in Highland Lakes yet. The nearest are a short drive away.
If this is not quite it.
