Garden Ridge, Texas

Comal Country

A small city of approximately 4,500 people on the Comal-Bexar county line between New Braunfels and San Antonio -- incorporated in 1972 by 200 residents who wanted to avoid annexation by either neighboring city. Garden Ridge itself is primarily residential, but it is the address for two of the region's most significant attractions: Natural Bridge Caverns (the largest commercial cavern in Texas, discovered in 1960) and Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch (a 500-acre drive-through safari). The "Natural Bridge" in both names refers to a 60-foot limestone arch that spans the cavern entrance.
