Located two hours northwest of San Antonio, this natural area is renowned for its spectacular autumn colors, but offers year-round appeal with abundant wildflowers, clear streams, and plateau grasslands. Visitors can explore the shaded Mystic Canyon, observe the unique Monkey Rock formation, or relax by the spring-fed Sabinal River. What are the hiking trails like?
The park features over 10 miles of trails, ranging from the easy 0.4-mile Maple Trail to the challenging 3.6-mile West Trail. The trails traverse steep and rugged terrain, offering scenic views, springs, and shaded canyons.
Is camping available at the park?
Yes, you can choose from 30 campsites with water and electricity, or backpack to one of the 30 primitive hike-in campsites. Primitive sites require a 1 to 3.2-mile hike over steep and rough trails.
