About this property
Built like a fortress, furnished like a treasure. There's nothing else quite like it. Raised around 1865 from native Texas limestone, the Kusenberger Barn is a two-story rock building with walls two feet thick — the kind of construction that outlasts everyone who remembers why it was built that way. Gun-slot windows still face the front, a reminder of a rougher Texas, and a stone terrace runs along the building where the old-world charm is thickest. Inside, it's furnished with genuine 18th- and 19th-century antiques and textiles, so the history isn't a theme — it's the real inventory of the place.
Two bedrooms sleep four inside those thick stone walls, which do something modern houses can't: keep the heat out in summer, hold the warmth in winter, and wrap the whole stay in a deep quiet. It's atmospheric in a way you feel more than describe, with comfort tucked in so you never trade the character for ease.
The grounds are a stay in themselves — one of the prettiest stretches of Settlers Crossing, with abundant wildlife year-round and wildflowers that take over in spring. Friendly farm animals graze nearby, and the stone terrace is the place to take your coffee and watch it all wake up. When the building's history catches you, our Fredericksburg AI Historical Guide can walk you through the limestone, the gun slots, and the families of Settlers Crossing.
