Mill Pond Park

Mill Pond Park is San Saba's spring-fed town park: about 71 acres where some seven million gallons of spring water a day pass through clear ponds, over a small waterfall and under a footbridge, clear enough to see the plants on the bottom. It began as the town's first waterworks — Guy Risien built a rock-and-brush dam across Mill Creek in 1875, and most of it still stands — and later held a gristmill. Today it has picnic grounds with grills, walking trails, a playground, sports fields, a municipal pool and the San Saba County Historical Museum.

Before you go

The pool keeps its own seasonal hours, and the county historical museum on the grounds has been open on weekend afternoons — check with the city or the museum before you plan around either. The ponds are part of the town's water supply. Check park guidance before anyone swims, and children should wear life jackets.
