Colorado Bend State Park
Colorado Bend State Park spreads along the Colorado River on the San Saba–Lampasas county line, near the hamlet of Bend, and its best-known sight is Gorman Falls — a 70-foot, spring-fed waterfall reached by a self-guided trail of about three miles round trip over rough, rocky ground. The park has more than 35 miles of hike and bike trails, river fishing and paddling, Spicewood Springs, caves with reserved underground tours of Dynamite Cave, and tent camping beside the river, from drive-up sites to primitive hike-in ones.
Why people come here
Before you go
The park often reaches capacity, so reserve a day pass ahead online or by phone (as of October 2026, $5 for adults, free for children 12 and under). The Gorman Falls trail is rough and rocky — wear real shoes and carry water. The entrance road can flood in heavy rain, so check the park's alerts or call before you drive out, and check the live river gauges and park guidance before you swim or paddle. Children should wear life jackets.
