Red Top Jail
Constructed in 1895 for $11,500, the Llano Red Top Jail replaced an earlier facility on the courthouse square. The J. Pauly Co. built the structure using hundreds of tons of locally quarried granite combined with prefabricated metal bars and cells shipped from St. Louis. Operating as the county jail until 1982, the building retains its original layout, including family living quarters on the first floor and iron prison cells above.
