Leakey Methodist Church Historical Marker
Located at the northwest corner of Market and 1st streets, the Leakey Methodist Church Historical Marker honors the enduring faith and community spirit of the Frio River Canyon's earliest settlers. The congregation traces its origins to 1856, when worship services were held in the home of John and Nancy Leakey. After meeting in a schoolhouse and the county courthouse, the congregation built its first sanctuary in 1890-91, eventually constructing the current sanctuary on this site in 1922.
