South Llano River State Park

South Llano River State Park lies just south of Junction on Park Road 73, along two miles of the spring-fed South Llano River. It has 22.7 miles of trails for hiking and biking, four bird blinds, river fishing, floating and paddling, and camping that runs from water-and-electric sites to walk-in and primitive hike-in sites. More than 250 bird species have been recorded in the park, and the river bottom is a winter roost for Rio Grande turkeys, which is why parts of the park keep shorter hours from October through March.

Before you go

There is a daily entrance fee (as of October 2026, $5 for adults, free for children 12 and under). The concrete apron at the park's bridge access has been closed after a collapse, so paddlers exit before the bridge, carry around it and re-enter downstream. Check the live river gauges and park guidance before you swim or paddle. Children should wear life jackets.
